Year in Review: Zeitgeist 2010
Zeitgeist: the general cultural, intellectual, ethical, spiritual, and/or political climate within a nation or even specific groups, along with the general ambience, morals, sociocultural direction, and mood associated with an era.
Rather than give you my recap of 2010 I offer you this video that was forwarded to me from American media executive Lee Abrams with this note:
“While most traditional news media is so self absorbed with their own opinions and interpretation of what’s important, there are scores of 21st century sources that define the parameters of interest in America (and beyond )like this:”
Leaving you with more wisdom from Lee:
“A reason I think NEWS/INFORMATION is at the beginning of a historic transformation (on TV, print, online…everywhere) is because it’s grown beyond “experts” telling you what to think.
A radio example: In the early 70′s, “underground” DJ’s positioned themselves as knowing more than the public with their expertise…they didn’t and quickly became extinct. That will happen to news experts too—the ones that fail to embrace this century.
Oversimplified maybe, but traditional News media and even not-so-traditional news media better get ready for explosive change. It ain’t gonna happen with a ‘new anchor’ and better furniture (news sets)…
Slow extinction is possible if not likely for the “still successful but the clock is running generation of managers/leaders”….but so is powering into the Apple/Google era with NEW ideas…AFDI.
It’s scary OR exciting depending on your POV—I choose exciting.”
