Bras, Coffee, and Wine: 3 Things Designer Sueanne Shirzay CANNOT Live Without

Meet Social Media Superstar Sueanne Shirzay. Jewelry Designer. Fashionista. Blogger. Vlogger. Goddess. Style Contributor for the Herald de Paris.
Where are you answering these questions?
At my desk, In my house in a beautiful Long Island NY Beach Town.
What are you wearing?
A light blue shirt, striped shorts, flip flops, jewelry that I can’t put on my website because the stones are one of a kind, and a smile. Don’t be hating.
How did you get started in the jewelry business?
I owned an art gallery and sold Drusilla Morello’s handmade jewelry. She offfered to teach a jewelry making class to some of my interested clients who were also my friends. I got roped in by my friends. So it was peer pressure, plain and simple. I got hooked immediately.
What are your fondest childhood memories?
I grew up in a college and manufacturing type of town in Indiana. My fondest memories are riding my bike to the neighborhood pool and library, climbing trees, and preventing my two brothers from killing each other. I’m a middle child.
What are your favorite things to do outside of jewelry making?
I have always had an interest in fashion, style, and art. So I love to write for my blog, Does This Look Good On Me? , paint, read and run on the beach. And I’m a very social animal so I love to hang out with friends.
What current event has your eyes and ears?
I’ve been meeting several people who have Lupus through Social Media and one of my best “old” friends has it. So I designed a necklace a few months ago called “butterflies for Lupus” which I sell in my online shop and then donate 30% of the proceeds to The Lupus Foundation of PA.
How do you use Social Media in your industry for productivity?
Being a jewelry designer on Twitter and Facebook is sort of like having a huge band of cheerleaders cheering you on on a daily and even hourly basis. It’s so nice to have real time feedback on what I’m doing. It definitely helps with my productivity. I do sell my jewelry in shops, but I rarely get to meet those customers. Through social media I have a very good idea of how I’m doing, how I can do better , and what my clients really want. It’s amazing.
What is your favorite website?
Anthropologie. Everything is so unique. Their clothing really appeals to my detailed and colorful aesthetic, and I love their smelly candles.
If you had a Super Power what would it be?
I already have one. I can melt ice with a single glare. I thought you knew that, Jessica. Wait, let me dilute your margarita for you.
Which famous jewelry designers do you admire?
Too many to list and I keep adding more and more every day! But the ones I admire are not famous. They each have their own unique style.
What is your favorite movie?
I have to choose one? No fair. Recently, I really liked The Hangover. I love to laugh. And boys are dumb.
Favorite snack?
Peanut Butter Girl Scout Cookies
What are 3 items you CAN NOT live without?
Bras, Coffee, and Wine
How do you balance your jewelry making with other obligations?
By now everybody knows that when Mom is happy, everybody is happy. When the kids were little, of course they got the bulk of my time. But now that they are getting older and more independent, it’s much easier for me to take care of my business. Trophy Husband has had to adjust to this new career. It is a balancing act but so far I haven’t fallen off the tightrope. I never get everything done and I gave up the need to be perfect a very long time ago.
If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be, and what would say to them?
Meryl Streep. How do you do it all? I really admire her ability to have both a successful career and family life. I love her sense of humor, too.
What is your hobby or do you collect anything?
I love to oil paint. I show in galleries a couple times a year with a group of women locally. I do have a really nice art collection.
What chore to you hate?
I hate doing dishes because it’s thankless job and one that never ends. Grease skeeves me out.
Do you have an animal/s?
I have a huge fluffy white dog named Coconut. He’s beautiful and he knows it. He’s a Samoyed.
Apples or Oranges?
Apples
Mac or PC?
Mac. I’m hoping Steve Jobs will accept my marriage proposal any day now.
Ginger or Mary Ann?
HA! Ginger. No contest. I’m a redhead.
Craziest thing you have ever done?
Started my own advertising and publishing business at age 27 and have been self-employed ever since. I’m not the skydiving type, but that’s close enough.
